Mona Baker (born 1953) is an Egyptian professor of translation studies and Director of the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester in England.〔(Professor Mona Baker ), Webpage at the University of Manchester Institute of Technology (UMIST)〕 ==Career== Baker studied at the American University in Cairo, where she gained a BA in English and Comparative Literature. Afterwards she studied applied linguistics at the University of Birmingham, obtaining an MA. In 1995 she moved to the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology where she became a professor in 1997. She currently holds the Chair in Translation Studies.〔(Prof. Mona Baker (University of Manchester) )〕 She is the founder of St. Jerome Publishing where she was editorial director until 2014 when Routledge bought the St. Jerome catalogue.
